About the artist "Daniel R. Blakeman."
I am originally from Houma, Louisiana.  Lived in the area most of my life.  Was a professional hairstylist for some 40yrs. and loved every minute of my career.  Have a family of seven children, five girls and two boys.
We moved to Gatlinburg, Tennessee in 1994 just after the big blizzard.  Started painting in 1994 as a joke.  Was given a Crayola watercolor set and told to paint something.  I did just that and fell in love with art.  I continued to paint every day perfecting my skills as an artist.  After a year and a half of painting, I was told that Arrow Mount College was hosting an art competition.  I entered the contest and had my work displayed with all the other wonderful artist of the area.  Just to be part of the exhibition, was such a privilege.  However, winning was even better for me.  It fired up that competitive spirit in me and I painted even more each day.  After about three years of painting I entered the "Dogwood Art Festival in Knoxville, Tennessee,"  and won.  My work was shown on "Good Morning America", while painting at the festival.  I was interviewed by several radio stations and featured in over 36 news articles.  My home town paper had an article about my accomplishments as well.  I have gone on to win  every competition I have entered so far.  I do paint for the love of art and will until I can't paint any more.
I was told as a young child, by my dad, "Son you can do whatever anyone else can do, just do it your way."  I did just that and found out that I can do all things if I put my heart to the task.  I grew up knowing that principle and it changed my life forever.
I am so thankful to have had wonderful encouraging parents.  This website is dedicated to them both, my Mom who always encouraged me to try things before saying I, "couldn't."  My wonderful Dad that taught me that I can take the "T out of can't and you have Can."   It is there never ending encouragement that keeps me pressing forward and not giving up on my dreams.  I thank God every day for what I inherited, from my parents.  They are both gone now, but the wonderful things I learned from their encouragement still lives on in my heart.
